I’ve parked the delorean back in August of 2016. So let’s look at what games I played back then.
Well it looks like I was still playing the lcg Ashes Rise of the Phoenix Born.
I love the worker placement game The Manhattan Project. So it was a no brainer that I got the card game based on it The Manhattan Project Chain Reaction. It’s fairly light and quick to play.
I’ve also been known to enjoy a game of 7 Wonders. Despite being able to play 7 Wonders as a two player game, it’s a kludge at best. Now 7 Wonders Duel is an amazing two player game. So good that Nathan loved it, and has his own copy.
Continuing the two player game theme this month seems to have I got the great two player hand management game Odin’s Ravens to the table.
And a big surprise I actually played a couple of physical games of Star Realms. That is such a rarity.
I enjoyed New Bedford but can I ever forgive it for bringing Nantucket (the worst game ever) into my life?
And here is the complete list of games played I played back then.
Oh on the life front some brief news before giving you those delicious stats to pour over.
I was offered and accepted the job at the other store. The higher ups just need to workout between them when I can transfer over. As you might guess I’m rather happy about this.
Now on with the show.
Now for the stats.
Finally the progress I’ve made on one or two of the challenges.
So I thought I’d share what my top nine played games of 2022 so far are.
I don’t think it’s going to help that there are two Stonemaier games in the list. I already get “teased” by one or two at game meets for being a Stonemaier fanboy. This will just add more ammunition for the banter.
Anyway nine great games. How many of them will still be on this list at the end of the year?
Stepping out of that ol’ Tardis vacated by some time lord or other that I borrowed it from. It looks like we’ve arrived at June 2016 to see what I was playing then.
I’m not sure if June was our last month of playing the Pandemic campaign but I think we were at least getting close to its conclusion.
Guilds of London was picked up at UKGE (my copy was signed by the designer) and was a pretty solid game. It’s only real drawback was the steep learning curve with the iconography.
Marco Polo a great dice placement game, and those game breaking variable player powers. Great fun.
It’s interesting that five of the months top played games are “pocket” sized games that finished in under forty minutes. That filler game bracket.
Ashes is a great lcg, with unique mechanics such as picking your starting hand from your deck, and the use of dice. It’s such a shame that the publisher screwed it up which relegated it to a niche game in that space.
Here is the full list of games played in June.
That’s the trip to the past over and done with. Time to pop back into that police box and try to return to the present day.
Another month nearly gone, which means I’ll be sharing the monthly gaming stats with you in an imminent post. But before then it’s time to jump in that ol’ Delorean and revisit May 2016.
Yep we were still working our way through the Pandemic Legacy Season 1 campaign. Still enjoying its twists and turns.
The stand out game of this month looks like a game only a select few have played and that’s Ladybug Lunch. An enjoyable little card game. For the record the game was designed by Jonathan so contractually I have to say that. If I remember correctly his daughter has a card named after her in it. Which is scant consultation for knowing I am and will be forever the reigning Fenland Gamers Bohemian Villages champion.
And that’s a nice segway into saying we played Bohemian Villages this month. For some reason this game never got the love it deserved. It definitely flew under the radar. Which is a shame. It’s a great little game.
Nations the dice game I enjoyed (it’s still in the collection) and was part of a small trend at the time of producing dice versions of a particular game.
Traders of Osaka was a purchase after seeing Wil Wheaton and pals play it on a Tabletop episode if memory doesn’t fail me. Once again a nice game that should get to the table more often.
Ok time for some stats…
And now for those that like lists here is one.
That’s about it for this post see you around the same time next month for another flashback.
It’s getting close to the end of the month and time once again to look back to days of old and see what I was playing way back when.
So it looks like we were still working our way through the Pandemic Legacy Season 1 campaign.
I’ve not played any Fluxx game in years. They are fun. Might have to dig one out and get it to the table. Mustn’t forget the house rule that if the game hasn’t ended within 30 mins to stop playing. Else it will go on forever.
I miss Android Netrunner. It is a great game, just oozing theme. Shame it joined that long list of dead games (yes I know fans are doing new stuff for it).
Not sure when I last played a physical copy of Star Realms. All my game play is with the digital version. But that won’t stop me backing this years Kickstarter for it!
Ok here are the months gaming stats.
Here’s that complete list of everything I played in April 2016.
