Flashback to December 2016

Before I bore you with the December 2022 stats post it’s time to bore you with yet another post looking back to 2016.

As per usual for this post we start off with the top 9 games played that month.

My Top 9 games played December 2016

Love Letter Batman, sadly no longer available for folks to buy. But it is my favourite version of Love Letter still. I love the theme, and the extra point for guessing what another player has in their hand when playing a Batman card, a nice rule change. Probably my favourite introduced by any version.

Ah yes Pandemic Iberia. The game ZMan was a limited printing. Yet somehow gets reprinted! It’s not a bad version of Pandemic. Don’t think I’ve played it since. However it is the version I’ve kept in the collection.

Braggart was a fun card game. But not one that held up to repeated plays over a short period of time. I gave this away in the end iirc.

We all know how I feel about Scythe. Nuff said.

Viticulture and Alien Frontiers both great worker placement games. Which I’m looking forward to getting back to the table as part of one of this year’s challenges.

I do need to get The Others (a great one vs many game, which soured how I feel about CMoN and will never back a project of theirs again), and Cry Havoc back to the table. I do really like both these games and they deserve more love.

Robinson Crusoe possibly the most brutal co-op game on the market. Also probably the most fiddly to setup also. Still a fun game with the right people.

Ok let’s wrap this post up with the raw stats for December 2016.

My bgstats for December 2016

Naturally the next post in these look backs will move into 2017. See you then.

Flashback to October 2016

Hard to think it’s been a month since the last one of these jumps back in time to look at what I was playing six years ago.

Time sure flies when you are going from one challenging situation to another.

So let’s get right to it and look at what my top nine played games were back in October 2016.

My top 9 played games of October 2016

Looking at the top nine, it looks like Netrunner was still a thing at my FLGS. FFG hadn’t started nerfing Anarchs or NBN at this point.

I was also getting some games in of Ashes. Although I was still using the pre-con decks, and hadn’t gotten into the deck building side.

If memory hasn’t failed me my games of Star Wars Imperial Assault were from one of the rare organised play events at my FLGS. Which means these were skirmish games not campaign games.

With Tiny Epic Western being played the Kickstarter for it must have just arrived. I know this didn’t sit with everyone who played it, but I did like the mix of worker placement and poker. Plus I loved the playmat they did for the game.

Karmaka is a great card game that deserves seeing the table again. I really liked the mechanic that attracted me to the Kickstarter where cards you play can be used by your opponent. The theme really does come through in this game.

Zombicide hit the table. I’m shocked that happened.

7 Wonders Duel, an instant two player classic. One I need to play again. Nathan loves this game too. That’s how good the game is.

Still enjoy playing Splendor, although no longer in my collection, I do have the Marvel version.

Star Wars Timelines. A lovely quick Star Wars game that does test your knowledge of the original trilogy.

Finally for this type of post here are the raw stats for the month.

Bgstats for October 2016

Flashback to September 2016

It’s time to quantum leap back to September 2016 and the games I was playing that month.

My top 9 games played in September 2016

It’s an interesting top 9 this month. Four of the games played were Kickstarter editions.

It’s nice to see I was getting Android Netrunner to the table. I think this was the time that it started to get some traction at a local gaming group and the FLGS. So games were easier to come by.

I don’t remember much of the game play for Thief’s Market. I vaguely remember dice and I think I split you choose mechanic. But I might be wrong on the mechanic.

I’m always going to remember Saloon Tycoon as the first game I ever played with Diego. It’s also the game he earnt the reputation as points monster. First time he ever played the game he wiped the floor with Jonathan and myself.

Grifters was a very cool card game with an interesting cool-down mechanic that I backed on Kickstarter. I even backed the follow up to this. I loved the cyberpunk theme that might be connected to the Resistance universe if I remember correctly. The art is pretty cool.

Talking of theme Hit Z Road just oozes it’s post zombie apocalypse theme. It’s a nice light dice based game too. Jonathan even enjoyed this one!

I really need to get Spectre Ops back to the table. I think we have the play group for this now. The promised app for it never did appear. And I really should get the follow up. I see the basis of another bgstat challenge here.

The Great Heartland Hauling Co. is a nice light pick up and deliver game. Pretty small box also. I liked it so much I got my own copy.

Here are the full bgstats for the month.

Flashback to August 2016

I’ve parked the delorean back in August of 2016. So let’s look at what games I played back then.

My top 9 played games of August 2016

Well it looks like I was still playing the lcg Ashes Rise of the Phoenix Born.

I love the worker placement game The Manhattan Project. So it was a no brainer that I got the card game based on it The Manhattan Project Chain Reaction. It’s fairly light and quick to play.

I’ve also been known to enjoy a game of 7 Wonders. Despite being able to play 7 Wonders as a two player game, it’s a kludge at best. Now 7 Wonders Duel is an amazing two player game. So good that Nathan loved it, and has his own copy.

Continuing the two player game theme this month seems to have I got the great two player hand management game Odin’s Ravens to the table.

And a big surprise I actually played a couple of physical games of Star Realms. That is such a rarity.

I enjoyed New Bedford but can I ever forgive it for bringing Nantucket (the worst game ever) into my life?

And here is the complete list of games played I played back then.

Flashback to June 2016

Stepping out of that ol’ Tardis vacated by some time lord or other that I borrowed it from. It looks like we’ve arrived at June 2016 to see what I was playing then.

My Top 9 Played Games of June 2016

I’m not sure if June was our last month of playing the Pandemic campaign but I think we were at least getting close to its conclusion.

Guilds of London was picked up at UKGE (my copy was signed by the designer) and was a pretty solid game. It’s only real drawback was the steep learning curve with the iconography.

Marco Polo a great dice placement game, and those game breaking variable player powers. Great fun.

It’s interesting that five of the months top played games are “pocket” sized games that finished in under forty minutes. That filler game bracket.

Ashes is a great lcg, with unique mechanics such as picking your starting hand from your deck, and the use of dice. It’s such a shame that the publisher screwed it up which relegated it to a niche game in that space.

June 2016 Stats

Here is the full list of games played in June.

Games played in June 2016

That’s the trip to the past over and done with. Time to pop back into that police box and try to return to the present day.

Flashback to May 2016

Another month nearly gone, which means I’ll be sharing the monthly gaming stats with you in an imminent post. But before then it’s time to jump in that ol’ Delorean and revisit May 2016.

My Top 9 Played Games in May 2016

Yep we were still working our way through the Pandemic Legacy Season 1 campaign. Still enjoying its twists and turns.

The stand out game of this month looks like a game only a select few have played and that’s Ladybug Lunch. An enjoyable little card game. For the record the game was designed by Jonathan so contractually I have to say that. If I remember correctly his daughter has a card named after her in it. Which is scant consultation for knowing I am and will be forever the reigning Fenland Gamers Bohemian Villages champion.

And that’s a nice segway into saying we played Bohemian Villages this month. For some reason this game never got the love it deserved. It definitely flew under the radar. Which is a shame. It’s a great little game.

Nations the dice game I enjoyed (it’s still in the collection) and was part of a small trend at the time of producing dice versions of a particular game.

Traders of Osaka was a purchase after seeing Wil Wheaton and pals play it on a Tabletop episode if memory doesn’t fail me. Once again a nice game that should get to the table more often.

Ok time for some stats…

Stat Insights for May 2016

And now for those that like lists here is one.

That’s about it for this post see you around the same time next month for another flashback.

Flashback to April 2016

It’s getting close to the end of the month and time once again to look back to days of old and see what I was playing way back when.

My Top 9 Played Games In April 2016

So it looks like we were still working our way through the Pandemic Legacy Season 1 campaign.

I’ve not played any Fluxx game in years. They are fun. Might have to dig one out and get it to the table. Mustn’t forget the house rule that if the game hasn’t ended within 30 mins to stop playing. Else it will go on forever.

I miss Android Netrunner. It is a great game, just oozing theme. Shame it joined that long list of dead games (yes I know fans are doing new stuff for it).

Not sure when I last played a physical copy of Star Realms. All my game play is with the digital version. But that won’t stop me backing this years Kickstarter for it!

Ok here are the months gaming stats.

Stats Insights For April 2016

Here’s that complete list of everything I played in April 2016.

See you in next months flashback.

Flashback to March 2016

I had this idea this morning as I drifted in and out of sleep to do a series of posts that look back at yesteryear and the games I was playing that month.

Obviously there is only so far I can go back as I have only been recording game plays in the bgstat app since December 2015.

I thought I’d start the flashbacks with that first full year of data that I have, which is 2016.

I’m not going to do news headlines for the month. But the mess that is Batman v Superman hit the cinemas in March 2016. As did the dire sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen (which I took Nathan to see).

So what were my top 9 games that I played back in March 2016?

My Top 9 Played Games In March 2016

Only Android Netrunner from those 9 is no longer in my collection. I still have very fond memories of playing the game. In fact I still use it as a measuring stick that I judge similar games by. I still rate the game very highly. Still love the Android universe.

Obviously I play a lot of Star Realms and Epic the Card Game but digitally. I just don’t get the opportunity to play either as physical games. It might even seem a little odd if I did!

Batman Love Letter still gets to the table. Still a great version and my favourite Love Letter.

Five Tribes, 7 Wonders, and Discoveries need a bit of gaming love with a return to the table. Maybe that could be a new challenge at some point, games that haven’t been played in over a certain number of years.

Let’s look at the stats summary for the month.
