#RPGaDAY2022 Day 31 aka The Final Day

Here we are.

The final #RPGaDAY2022 post.

We made it. Just.

Let’s get this show on the road for the final time this year.

When did you first take part in #RPGaDAY?”

This will have been my fourth #RPGaDAY that I’ve taken part in since I came across it in 2019.

I can’t remember how I stumbled across it.

It was probably a trending topic on Twitter or something that I clicked on and thought “that sounds like a fun thing to do”.

But I’m glad I did come across it. They have been an interesting and fun thing for me to do.

With that final answer it’s time to close off this years #RPGaDAY and say the following…

See you next year for the 10th Anniversary #RPGaDAY.

#RPGaDAY2022 Day 30

What should #RPGaDAY do for its 10th anniversary next year?”

I have to say the last few days of #RPGaDAY haven’t been fun for me. As the posts have shown I’ve not had much or anything to say on the days probing insightful question.

This is my fourth year (wow that’s surprised me) and I enjoyed the previous years much more.

As the the gallery below shows those previous years that I took part in were different.

They used single words that I found much more open to interruption and less restrictive. And yes I did find some days harder than others to write. But I feel I had a better writing experience.

So for me I’d love to see a return to the “old” format.

#RPGaDAY2022 Days 26 – 28!

A couple of long days means I’m behind on the final days of this years #RPGaDAY.

So instead of separate posts I’m going catch up with this one single post.

It’s not as if with the current theme of the probing questions I have a lot to say anyway. So together my brief answers might make one post!

Day 26 – “Why does your character do what they do?”

I remember at the time I was playing Dram the Halfling Wizard one of the influences for his personality or having little to no fear, being curious, and getting into trouble was Tass from the Dragonlance books.

Obviously I didn’t borrow the kender trait of other peoples possessions somehow falling into his care. That wouldn’t have been within character for the wizard I felt. Although it would be interesting to play.

It helped Dram knew Misty Step. So when he got into that sticky situation he could just disappear out of it to a safe spot! A good example of this is when at the Ruins of Thundertree when he went into the abandoned and decaying tavern The Brown Horse looking for ale and discovered some Ash Zombies instead. Whilst Dram Misty Stepped away from them to safety outside. Others in the party had to deal with the Ash Zombies differently!

Day 27 – “How has the character changed?”

I don’t think he has!

Well I didn’t get to play Dram long enough.

Overtime I’m sure he may grown over time. But we’ll never know.

Day 28 – “Style Sunday: Roll 1d8+1, tag that many friends with your favourite RPG cover art.”

I’m not going to tag anyone!

But below you will find a gallery of some of the cover art I really like.

One or two of the books I don’t own. One or two I do own but don’t have that edition with the art on.

RPGaDAY2022 Day 25

Where has the character been?”

Dram the Halfling Wizard had visited the following places in the Lost Mines of Phandelver adventure (the adventure included in the “old” Starter Set).

  • Neverwinter
  • Phandalin
  • Neverwinter Wood
  • Thundertree
  • Cragmaw Castle

No-one currently knows where he went afterwards.

There were rumours Dram had made it over to the Moonshae Isles.

Then there were sightings of him at the City of Arches riding a raptor.

But his exact location is unknown.

All we do know is that Dram is living the dream!

RPGaDAY2022 Day 24

Continuing the dissection of the current character being played, and my poorest efforts for one of these RPGaDAY things.

We get asked “When did you start playing this character?”

Also continuing with my rather short Twitter inspired answers, here we go.

Looking at my bgstat app I started playing Dram the Halfling Wizard on the 10th July 2018. Which probably means he was created a day or two earlier!

#RPGaDAY2022 Day 23

This final week of the hashtag seems to be focusing on players and the characters they are playing.

Which as a DM/GM only at the moment makes these soul searching questions very hard to answer.

What situation are they currently in?”

I’m going to go back to the last time I played as a player and my halfling character Dram.

In the last session Dram appeared this is how he left.

As dawn approached Dram was was sitting on a stump wrapped in his fur blanket, cuddling his glass staff, lost in thought.

I bet Sarmyar is having a boring time without me.” With that thought lingering in his head Dram mumbled some words and disappeared.”

I like to think that Dram did catch up with Sarmyar and for a while they had travelled together and had an adventure or two. But now that he is out there getting himself into trouble and Misty stepping his way to safety.

#RPGaDAY2022 Day 22

Today has been a chill day catching up on sleep.

So I shouldn’t be falling asleep whilst writing the post. Yep that’s how boring these posts are they even send me to sleep!

Let’s see which theme will put me to sleep today…

Who is your current character?”

I don’t actually have a current character!

Well I don’t I just DM at the moment.

The last character I played was Dram the halfling wizard. Who was last seen near Phandelver.

Dram the halfling wizard

But if I was to play in a D&D campaign now, I’d probably want to play Tye Reedfellow Halfling Monk. However whatever I played it would be a halfling of some description.

I like halflings. Sorry. Not sorry.

#RPGaDAY2022 Day 21

Setting Sunday: Share an intriguing detail from a game setting you enjoy.”

Our current campaign (when we can get together to play it, life is currently throwing obstacles in the way at the moment) is set in Mike Shea’s City of Arches.

The intriguing thing about this setting for me are the titular arches.

Dozens of arches of all different shapes, sizes, and
ages can be found in, around, and under the city. Some have lain dormant for centuries while others still radiate magic.

None know how to control the arches. Occasionally, creatures from other lands or other worlds step through the archways from the other side. They enter the city often disoriented and often with little memory of where they came from.” City of Arches pdf by Mike Shea

I just love the story opportunities this opens up. From a rich, colourful population of the city that can be from anywhere in the D&D multiverse. To the adventurers visiting anywhere in the multiverse via one of those arches.

The different tones and themes that open up are limitless. Want to make use of the soon to be released Spelljammer? Not a problem there is an arch for that in the City of Arches just waiting to take the adventurers there.

It’s why Harengon will be turning up soon in our game, and maybe the odd Slaad or two.

Yes the arches in the City of Arches setting are definitely it’s most intriguing feature.

#RPGaDAY2022 Day 20

Bugger my day counts are all out. Yesterday wasn’t day 20. Don’t worry I’ve edited the posts title to be correct.

How long do your games last?”

Our D&D sessions last around three hours.

There was a longer session very early on. I want to say it was nearly five hours.

But we found the sweet spot was three hours.

So that’s what it’s been ever since.

The has been a session or two that would have finished a little earlier than that. But that was because we reached a natural break point.

I’d like to have the life style to do longer sessions. But I think those days are long behind me.

See you tomorrow.
