BPL.co.uk Evernew Video
Podcast Bob has been busy once more over at Backpackinglight.co.uk and has produced another video this time showing off the new Evernew Titanium Pans that they are now selling in the UK.
Stove Talk Episode 5
The latest Stove Talk which is episode 5 is now available. This episode looks at the Vargo Titanium Woodburner.
Don’t forget you can leave comments here or on YouTube.
BPL.co.uk Evernew Video
Over on the Backpackinglight.co.uk online lightweight emporium there is a new video from Podcast Bob showcasing the Evernew titanium products that are now available from said online outlet. So here is the new video for you to watch.
bpl.co.uk Video Review Of The Shangri-La 3
On my first successful crossing of the TGO Challenge in 2008 the shelter I used was the Golite Hex 3 which was the predecessor of the Shangri-La 3. Oh ok the Shangri-La 3 is a rebranded and improved Hex 3. But it doesn’t get away from the fact that this is a great shelter, especially for one. It has lots of living space and is very stable in bad weather.
Anyway the point of this post is that Podcast Bob has gone and produced a nice video showing off the latest iteration of the Shangri-La 3. Which you can watch below OR go over to Bob’s little online web emporium and view it there (while there why not per rouse his wares as well).
Stovie Stuff Over On BPL.co.uk
While I was off on my Irish adventure Podcast Bob sneaked out a new podcast. This one is aimed clearly at stovies. So let’s let Uncle Bob tell us all about this latest audio delight.
”Its the beginning of May 2010 and Andy Howell drops by to collect a few goodies and discuss the growing impact wood burning stoves are making in the outdoor world. Specifically we look at the latest Titanium offerings from Evernew in Japan and Vargo in the US. Both items have just arrived in the UK and are combining with others already in the market, to offer more variety in outdoor cooking. As Andy is about head off on the 2 week solo cross Scotland TGOC walk, we also look at the subtle difference, both gear wise and physiologically, there is when walking solo compared to with your domestic partner. Does it mean for a better walking experience? Hope out partners aren’t listening!”
So if that description has got you interested then I’ve embedded the player here, or you can download the mp3, or you can get it in iTunes or visit Bob’s web emporium.
No 296 – Titanium Stove Talk and Solo Walking Thoughts
Which brings us nicely on to the two stoves that Podcast Bob is pimping in the show.
The first is the Vargo Titanium Wood Stove at £45.99, which can be seen in action in this Youtube clip.
Next up at £34.99 is the Evernew Ultralight Titanium Alcohol Stove from Japan and it’s companion product also at £34.99 Ultralight Titanium DX Stand. Which Robin has covered over on his blog in great detail.
But the new stuff doesn’t stop there Podcast Bob also has an extension now available for the Honey Stove called the The Hive (Upgrade kit) at £12.99. Which basically I believe turns the Honey Stove in to a bigger Honey Stove which I guess by the name is being called The Hive.
New Podcast From Backpackinglight.co.uk
Just a little more frequent at the moment than my stove talk videos are the podcasts from Backpackinglight.co.uk. Ok there isn’t much in it. But Podcast Bob is getting them out more often than me at the moment. Anyway he now has a new podcast out that folks might want to pick up and listen to.
I know this seems lazy, and in a way it is but you want to know what this podcast is all about and well do I rewrite Bob’s words or just use all that hard work he has already done to tell you? Well I’ve taken the path of least resistance, which is also the lazy option, and using the miracle of cut and paste here are the words of Bob telling you all about his latest podcast.
“Hey we’re back! Full of apologies mind you, but at least we’re back! In this podcast we join in with a Haiti fund raising marathon hill climb relay, right here in our home town of Malvern. We chat to organizer Steve Ollis and then join our small group as we puff our way up the hill and down again. Later in the show I revisit our roots with a lightweight overnight wild camp using some of the new 2010 products and a rucksack weighing in at less than 5kg all in. The main purpose is to look at the new Vaude Power Lizard in the wild, and test the Golite 3+ season top bag in sub zero temperatures.”
Anyway you can get the Podcast No 287 – Haiti Hill Climb and Lightweight Overnightby right clicking that link and saving it locally. There is no player at the moment.
Possible Ramblers 75th Annivesary Piece On TV Tonight
If you are at home tonight around tea time or 7pm as it is also known The One Show on BBC1 should be doing a piece about the Ramblers 75th anniversary. That bit of info comes straight from Tom Franklin’s twitter account. Who is Tom Franklin? Well he is according to his Twitter bio the Chief Exec of the Ramblers. Does that ring any bells? Come on you must remember Tom, he’s the guy Cameron McNeish doesn’t like much (read a bit here). Nope? Ok he’s the one that has presided over the drop in income and the rebranding of The Ramblers, which lead to them having to make drastic cut backs but more or less crippling their regional outposts in Scotland and Wales to a skeleton crew.
Yep now you know who I am talking about. Well I’m going to go out on a limb tonight and say that the Ramblers segment will not be a deep hard hitting interview about the current situation and the cut backs, but more a soft focus look back of the Ramblers past. Let’s face it those two presenters on The One Show are not there to grill guests, they are not Newsnight presenters. Plus it’s The One Show it’s all fluff and no calories when it comes to content (a bit like the recent BBC The Virtual Revolution series about the web).
So keep an eye out for this, but don’t hold your breathe for it being more than a five minute fluff piece.
Stovey Goodness
Well while myself and the rest of the world were all hanging off every word that Steve Jobs had to say about the iPad, Podcast Bob snuck out a new video podcast.
So what is this video all about? Over to Podcast Bob to tell you all about it:
"On a bitter cold winters day I get out the five most popular meths stoves for a demo. We discuss the features of each one and then time the burning duration. Includes the Vargo Triad, Vargo Decagon, White Box Solo, White Box Duo and the Trangia. Warning this is for enthusiasts only!"
You can watch the video split into two (a restriction forced by Youtube) on Youtube click here for part 1 and click here for part 2. Sadly can’t embed them in the page! Shocking that. You can also get the video on iTunes or download it from here.
Also I did come across a bit of news that a certain tv celeb Ray Mears is now selling the Honey Stove as well. So congrats to Bob abd Rose on that.
And back to the Apple fanboy stuff to close. If you have a spare 20 odd mins of your life you don’t want, there is an audio file you can listen to over on my tech blog with some of my thoughts about the new Apple iPad. You can get to it by visiting www.darrentalkstech.blogspot.com
Walking Pole Extender Link Video
Remember me saying that Podcast Bob sent me one of the Walking Pole Extender Link? Well while I play with it etc I thought you might like to see the video that Podcast Bob has produced showing it off.
I am kicking myself for not picking this video up earlier, because it came out last month. I’m getting old and slipping.
Something To Watch On This Rainy Day
A friend sent a link to me during the week of this modern classic Saturday Night Live clip on Youtube. The clip stars Ben Afflick and is rather funny. It’s called Times Square Coat.
I’m pretty sure that Trail review coats like this each issue. I could see the Trail team creaming their pants over a coat like this.
It does seem to sum up the direction that some manufacturers go with their products.
I can’t embed the video as the copyright holder has I assume requested that it is not possible. Which I respect and agree that is is their right to do so.
You can view it here on Youtube by clicking HERE.
However before you disappear off to look at that clip, why not watch a classic Muppets clip that did the rounds last week showing off that Youtube now does 1080p video.
Nice as this feature is, I’d love it for Youtube to raise the time limit of videos from ten minutes to twenty minutes.
