Late this morning Bud was put to sleep in the comfort of his home.
It’s been so hard to write this post, to break the news.
It was a hard decision. Well not exactly true, it was heartbreaking. Despite knowing it was the right thing to do, that it was the loving kind thing to do. That knowledge didn’t help, or take the pain away.
Since Wednesday when the decision was made, I’ve been kind of on the edge of “leaking eyes”, and thinking of what would be happening today would set the leaking off. I was barely able to mention it to people with out leaks.
Robin who also experienced the lose of a beloved companion this year, put me on to a Kipling poem that sums up how it is to be a dog owner and how the lose of the four legged companion will break your heart (You can read the poem “The Power of the Dog” by clicking on the poem name).
Nothing I write today can sum up really the lose I feel, or the sorrow and heartbreak. But tonight the pack will howl in memory of Bud, and a drink or two of good single malt will be drunk in his honour and memory.
To Bud, a much loved companion, happy hunting on the other side
Sorry to read your sad news Darren, always a horrible decision for any pet owner.
Here’s to Bud .
So sorry Darren, it is a heartbreaking decision and you’re right, the knowledge that it’s the best thing, the right thing, doesn’t ease the pain, but you’ll have those memories one day of all the fun times and they will be good.
very sad news, doing the right thing never eases the pain as you state. No doubt Bud is chasing rabbits in doggy eaven as I write…
So sorry to hear your bad news. Obviously a decision made with love.
So sorry Darren about Bud, words fail me. Thinking of you in this time of sadness mate.
So sorry to hear the news Darren. Many commiserations. My sister has had to have two horses put down this year. Our dog is a young six year old, so I’m hoping that I don’t have to make this kind of decision for a long time. Dogs (and horses) have a strange capacity to capture your heart. They are more than animals. When my mother had their last dog put down, she said she consoled herself with thinking what a good life the dog had and remembered all the good things. The ache will take time to go away, but remember the good things.
So sorry to hear the news, Darren. It’s heartbreaking when you lose such a close companion. Thinking of you.
so sorry to hear your news.its hard now but it will ease and you will remember all the good times.
I am so sorry to hear this Darren. Take the pack out into the sparkling winter sunshine this morning and have one of Bud’s favourite walks. It’s a good clean air out there this morning with a bright blue sky.
Best wishes to you Darren,
Alan
Sorry to hear your sad news. Bud had a happy life with you and the rest of the pack. We know you will miss him but he has been truly loved.

Sorry to hear the sad news, it’s never easy to make that decision but is always done with love and compassion.
Remember the good times.

A dog is a Buddie and a mans best friend and always will be. Coldplay summed up such feelings when they sang “Those who are dead are not dead
They’re just living in my head”
