So what follows is what I can fit into the Sea to Summit Ultrasil Daypack (so far).
Which is the following:
- a PHD Minimus sleeping bag
- Therm-a-rest sit mat
- sleeping mat
- ipood (but I do believe they will have to rename this, because of a certain company that I am a fanboy of)
- cord
- tent pegs
- washing up kit
- swiss army knife, silk liner gloves, head torch
- tarp
- snow peak 900
- Vargo Titanium wood burning stove
- Sea to Summit X Mug and X Bowl.
- freezer bag cozy with spork, windshield and chopping board
It’s not everything, I just need to get a ground sheet in there and some food. The food will go in the snow peak 900 so that isn’t a problem. The cozy and chopping board will disappear as well.
Today I was just throwing stuff in to get an idea of how much space I had to play with, and what I can and cannot get in.
I also need to make up a mini first aid kit. It will be very very basic.
But because of this fellow,
who will be accompanying me when I go out and spend a night out with the contents of the Sea to Summit Ultrasil Daysack, I will have to bend the rules slightly. Well it is unreasonable to expect me to get all the stuff for me AND Strider in the pack. Although I will do my best to make it so.
But before we go and spend our night out, which will be Striders first camping trip. I need to get a couple of the Sea to Summit little sinks they sell for camping/backpacking. These look ideal for using with Strider as a water bowl and for his food.
It also means I will have to also carry more water than planned. But this extra weight will be all worth it having a companion with me on the trip, even if it is only man’s best friend.
Looking good Darren,
Hopefully some of my readers may take up the challenge.

We took 2 of the Sea to Summit sinks to Tassie with us, and found them invaluable for all sorts of chores. We washed dishes, clothes and feet in them. We a mini swim at the lakes, we filled them from the lakes, splashed around, then tipped the water out away from the lakes, so didn’t directly pollute. Didn’t take up much room and were a constant source of entertainment. And, we got a coupla little freebies when we bought them. I am sure Strider will thank you. G
Frank, thanks for that post.
Georgie, thanks for the comment. Always great to have feedback on equipment, especially planned purchases.
I dont think that the iPood will havent hit Steve Jobbie’s legal team possible trademark infringement radar. And I guess that app to make the iFone look like a orange plastic trowel is shit hot…
