Some Inspiration For The BPC AGM Part 1

Posted on | February 7, 2010 | 6 Comments

This year the Backpackers Club AGM is being held in the South West at the Bath Racecourse from the Friday (23rd April) to the Sunday (25th April).

Apparently (and I haven’t dug out the maps to check this out yet) the racecourse is near or next to the Cotswold Way. But this got me thinking if folks are thinking of coming along, and I hope that they are that maybe they may want a few more suggestions as to what is available in the area for them to do.

Well there is the obvious of nipping into Bath itself and doing the tourist thing there. But as luck would have it The Guardian website have had a couple of bits up that may be of interest.

The first is something for you to listen to “Top National Trust walk in Bath: ‘Six mile ramble through wooded hills and valleys’” (you can get the downloadable map from the NT here). Which they have also written about on the Guardian site as well with a very nice picture of Bath on it. You can read the article here.

What I will do over the coming weeks in the run up to the AGM is dig up more ideas/suggestions for what to do while at the AGM that weekend.

I can highly reccomend the ramble, it starts at the University, and goes through the Bath country side, via the race course. Stunning views over bath, there will be loads of Air ballons around at time. And it’s not to far from the Cotswold way.

There is also a lovely walk down the canal, starts at the bottm end of Bath near the railway station. flat and fully pathed to Reading. :) Lovely easy walk for those wanting something simple. Kingfishers can often be seen by Dundas aqueduct.

And of course there is many sites in Bath its self to see, Georgian Archetecture, Bathgate, Jane Austin Museum, The Parade and others.

I joined once a few years back and could never get time to go along to any events due to life/work etc. I am thinking I will re-join again as it is a fantastic club and being a backpacker I think I could learn a lot from the members and have some great walks. Have a good AGM

Michael, thank you very kindly for those suggestions.

Martin, please do rejoin. If you would like I can send you a club mag to read. I think it is a great little mag that is worth the membership alone if you ask me.
