Bad Weather

With all the bad weather that has been hitting the North West the last couple of days, I think this picture of Barney (Left) sums up just where and what people prefer to be doing at times like this.
On the opposite side of the country we have fared better. We’ve had wind, we’ve had showers, we’ve also seen the sun however briefly.
However this varied weather creates some great opportunities for photographers. No I’m not claiming I’m one. But I have been out with both camera and iPhone snapping away. Ok I would of been out anyway as the dogs want their daily exercise, before they settle down in the warm to dream of chasing rabbits in the warm Summer sun (well I assume that is what they dream of).
The varied weather has created some interesting lighting. The three photos above were taken yesterday which I hope capture some of what yesterday was like weather wise.
Today the weather was completely different. Although not the pea soupers that I know and love from the fens, but still it was foggy.
I would hope you would agree that the fog gives a mysterious feel to the photos. It’s hard to capture the stillness of a place in a photograph, but I do hope I have managed to capture the change in mood that fog brings.
It’s this change in mood that I love to experience. Yes we can appreciate and enjoy our favourite or regular haunts on idyllic sunny Summer days. But for me the enjoyment of a place is to see it in all weather conditions. Let’s face it the wonderful fungi that I photograph only come out at certain times of the year and after we have had a wet spell. Or how about the wonderful Autumn colours we see on the trees. Both amazing things to see in their own way. And yet they can never be seen on that sunny Summer day.
However the thought of deliberately going out for a walk in “bad” weather is alien to most. If it is raining or looking like it will rain most people put off going out and prefer to do as Barney does at the start of this post, stay in doors snuggled up in the warm. Being a dog owner I don’t get that luxury, I have to go out no matter what the conditions. I’m glad that I do, look at what I have seen and photographed.
