You English B’Stard

Posted on | October 8, 2009 | 4 Comments

With the application deadline for the TGO Challenge only a few days away, I thought for the International entries I’d post this clip so that they know what they are letting themselves in for when they visit Scotland.

It should be fine for the International entrants (well apart from the Americans the whole world hates them, it’s the whole illegal invasion of countries for oil thing. I don’t think Scotland has realised they could be next on the US invasion plans.) as it’s just the English that are hated in Scotland.

I bet we are even more hated now that is has been shown that the English invented the national dish of Scotland the Haggis.

Anyway please don’t take any of the above seriously it’s all tongue in cheek. The Scottish people are fantastic, and one of my best friends is Scottish. The extra warm welcome that Challengers get is something else, definitely not something that you would get in England that’s for sure.

I heard Haggis was from Lancashire, Bagpipes from Norfolk and tartan or kilts or tartan kilts was also English. Indeed they dug up mummified bodies in the deserts of parts of China and they were wearing tartan. That was so far back in time that Scotland was not in existence.

Of course that is probably just English propaganda and I don’t believe it being British myself. ;-D

I think there are always problems when nations place too much of their identity on so called national objects or images. Whether that is the stars and stripes in USA or Mr R Burns on the haggis. Even the British national anthem uses a tune taken from an American composer’s variations on a theme. Nothing is truly sacred most of all national emblems and motifs.

Sorry if the above offends it is not meant to.

BTW That guy is funny. One of the best comedians to make the tv for a long time. See him on QI or Mock the week and you’ll see he is good.

Hey! Did you know that USA was the biggest burner of the stars and stripes? It is illegal to deface or deliberately damage that flag in USA so any soiled or damaged flags create a problem. Since the boy scouts of America organisation soils so many flags they get rid of them with respect by burning them. Hence the biggest burners of their own flag. Made me laugh. HAven’t they heard of washing machines and a needle and thread?

“The extra warm welcome that Challengers get is something else…”

Ah yes, burning the sassenachs at the stake has always been considered jolly good form this side of the border during the walking season…

Aaah Yes Kenny I can feel the warmth of the burning Sassanchs now, from south of the border where we are pleased to let those daft enough to drive past the Lakes JUST for the highlands of Scotland to provide your heating. Especially as the North Sea oil is starting to run out for you. ;-P

Seriously though, I have always had a very warm welcome whenever I have been to Scotland. Admitedly a lot of it from English ex-pats running bunkhouses, B&Bs or hotels, etc.
