At the start of the week we had rain for the day. So naturally when walking the mutts that PA100064day I left the camera and the phone at home. Well I didn’t want to get them wet. As I walked round head down in the rain, I got to the other side of the biggest pond. When I realised some how I, and the dogs had walked right past a heron. Once again I was kicking myself for not having a camera, but half consoling myself that the weather had made it too bad to bring one. Even so it still stung that I had missed another opportunity.

The next day I bumped into another regularly dog walker round the nature reserve who told me that the heron is normally there around daybreak. Wow a bit of local knowledge. But I could not see myself wanting the shot of the Heron that much at the moment.

For the rest of the week I kept a hopeful eye out for the heron. Not really expecting to see it again, especially at my normal time of walking the dogs. So you when I saw the heron land in the big pond I couldn’t believe my luck. The dogs and I started to work our way nearer and into a clear shot. We were like ninja. Ducks started quacking the other side of the pond. Still we crept nearer. Then the ducks went mental in the noise they produced, three dogs on the opposite side of the pond had gone running towards them and the water. The heron was spooked and flew off. Our best stealth work ruined. I tried to get a shot of the heron as it flew off, hence the best of a bad bunch above.

I’m hoping that the third time will be the lucky one with this heron. So here are one or two photos taken in the week.
