Cold Adventures At Fleet Pond

I like cold weather. There I’ve said it.  It gives me a chance to try things. Like the merino thermal base layer I got from Aldi last Sunday. There is a strong chance this base layer will be going with me on the Challenge. So need to know it cuts the mustard.

Below: I have to admit these are two of my favourite Grey Squirrel photos to date. I took them this morning at Fleet Pond. Initially I missed this little chappie. I had only seen his friend that was trying to pretend to be a tree and avoid being seen by the mutts. But then I noticed this one, luckily the mutts didn’t and I was able to get these cool pictures.

Below Left: Couldn’t resist this taking another piccy of "the Hobbit bridge". Below Right: I don’t know whose dog this is. But to lie down in the freezing cold water to drink seems a bit hard core or bloomin stupid if you ask me.

Above: Seems to be a lot of this on dead tree trunks at the moment. It’s a polypore of some sort I think.

Below: The cold seems to bring these guys out in force. It really isn’t that hard to get a good Robin photo at the moment (yes I know then how do I explain these ones). Just get out with the camera, they come to you. Plus there seems to be loads about at the moment.

Below: A none too happy Strider. I think it is because off camera Kate is hovering up and he doesn’t like the hover.

I missed getting a photo of a woodpecker today, some you win and some you lose. But by getting out you do increase the odds of getting more winners than losers.

Today At Tesco

In the tips post I mention about plastic/latex gloves to use with the Honey Stove. Well today when shopping at our local Tesco I noticed they were selling a packet of 100 disposable plastic gloves for DIY for the sum of two pounds. These are just like the ones you get on the petrol station forecourt. So not a bad price at all.

Also Tesco have started selling their own version of the Ziploc bag, along side the pour and store bags. The Ziploc bags are being sold for under two pounds IIRC for 30, but the pour and store bags are 97p for a box of eight.

UPDATE: Just a quick update on the Tesco Ziploc bag clone. The Ziploc is almost useless it comes off so easily without even trying. For example just sliding it across to open it comes right off the end. At the moment I can’t recommend these to folks, and would if Tesco pick this up tell them to go back to the drawing board.
