Train Tickets Purchased

Posted on | February 18, 2008 | No Comments

So yesterday after reading a gentle reminder on the TGOC forums, I booked the train tickets up to Mallaig. It’s a two stage journey that see’s us getting the sleeper from Euston (23:35) to Glasgow (7:16), kicking our heals in Glasgow for a few hours before catching the 12:15 Glasgow to Mallaig train.

The train journey from Glasgow to Mallaig is considered one of the classic train journeys in the UK. It is also considered the unofficial kick off event for the TGOC. Challengers gather before at the station to catch the train to their start point. As you board the train Roger Smith the event organiser is there to shake your hand and wish you good luck. Then it’s a six hour train journey through some spectacular countryside to get to Mallaig. And how better to finish off such a day than a fish and chip supper in Mallaig?

I think that this is something all Challengers should experience at some point. And thinking back to last year, I’m now so looking farward to experiencing it once more this year.

Today I’ve had a brief route planning meeting to discuss a couple of FWA we need to provide for our route. Whilst also taking delivery of the Golite Trig 2 for Martin. So tonight I plan to write up the FWA, adjust the route slightly to take into account suggestions about camp spots, and resubmit to Challenge Control.

In the meantime folks don’t forget to get those routes in so they arrive before the 29th February. That date is approaching fast.
