‘Mila kuda si planina’

Unless you are a football fan, then I can imagine a few out there are saying “wtf” about this postings title. Today in the papers (well the Metro anyway), and the Beeb website they have been covering a gaffe from Wednesdays football match between England and Croatia (and I don’t mean McClown or the England squad – excluding Crouch).
‘Mila kuda si planina’ is the Croatian for “You know my dear how we love the mountains” from their national anthem. And if that was the line that was sung on Wednesday there would be no story. But what was sung was ‘Mila kura si planina’, which apparently translates to “My dear, my p*n*s is a mountain.”
A simple mistake! But such a funny one. And because mountains are mentioned I have an excuse to blog about it. Besides I love the fact that the Croats have a line about their love for mountains in their national anthem. I wonder how many other nations express this feeling in their anthem?
