My mother-in-law uses &#039;instant oats&#039; and they are certainly handy. Regular bagged oats from the supermarket can take a while to cook - what I do is blend them to make it more like the &#039;sawdust&#039; consistency of instant oats, but without all the additives. When walking the WHW I took a few bags of this &#039;gear&#039; with me and started the day well each day. Of course the woman from C-N-Do was usually in the same YH kitchen, making real man&#039;s porridge the slow way, compared to my microwaved splodge!</description>
